Come on England!
English football fans are starting to arrive in Russia for the World Cup. What clothing essentials might they be packing alongside the HP sauce and decent loose-leaf tea? (Did you know the actor Dinsdale Landen wrote a fun book with his wife called The True Story of H. P. Sauce? I have it somewhere. I'd reach it out and show you the cover, but a quick search will reveal all.)
Representing your countryIf you are thinking to attend the World Cup, remember you're representing your country. You don't have to go full Savile Row with your attire. Casual is fine, but try and draw from the classics that gave British football fans a reputation for style that continues to influence casual menswear around the world. The clothes should be stylish, hard-wearing and media camera-friendly.
Russian dressingThe daily mean temperatures in Russia vary a lot in summer. It's a very big country. In Moscow in June it's 17 °C, rising to 20 °C in July, then dropping to 12-15 °C in the evening. Summer nights can be chilly, so I would take a lightweight coat. I always throw on a Barbour wax jacket for sporting events (top photo), but something like a coat from Pretty Green's Ventile range would be more than perfect.
Neo-casual needsI don't think Liam Gallagher will be leading a charge in Volgograd — though we shouldn't put it past him — but it looks like he has been considering the needs of the neo-casual with the Pretty Green lightweight Ventile cotton jackets in black and khaki.
Here we see the Waterproof Parka in khaki.
The Ventile range is made in England.
The Waterproof Parka has a cotton and linen Union Flag trim and removable hood liner. Fixtures and fittings are all top notch, with RiRi zips, horn buttons and sealed seams.
If you want something without a hood, Pretty Preen do the very handsome and robustly made Waterproof M-65 field jacket in Ventile (below).
The Waterproof M-65 jacket is based on the US military jacket made famous by Travis Bickle. This style of jacket can look very stylish when dressed up, as this famous photograph of an Italian scootering gent attests. Wearing great clothes with utter sprezzatura is the sign of true style. Liam Gallagher knows a thing or two about wearing clothes with the right attitude.
